Bacon Brittle

Cowboy Ciao is one of my favorite restaurants in Scottsdale, Arizona. So I was very excited when my order of Cowboy Ciao Bacon Brittle from The Grateful Palate arrived last week. After my positive experience with a bacon chocolate souffle at David Greggory last month, I was ready to try my hand at another bacon-enhanced dessert. And once again I was pleasantly surprised - although I shouldn't be all that surprised by the idea of bacon making something taste better. I highly recommend Cowboy Ciao Bacon Brittle as a gift for friends or a treat for yourself!

Berner Würstel Revisited

I'm back in Vienna - home of the Würstel - for work this week. Prior to coming to Vienna, I spent last weekend skiing in the Austrian Alps at Kitzbühel. During one of my breaks from skiing, I sat on the patio of a mid-mountain lodge, enjoyed this fantastic view, and had a delicious Berner Würstel (I wrote about my previous Berner Würstel experience on this blog last June). The combination of the Würstel and the view was absolutely breath-taking.

Bacon is Love

Thanks to one pathetic trolling asshole who has nothing better to do than sit in his mother's basement and harass my precious blog, I am going to be moderating comments for a while. All non-inflammatory comments are welcome!

Desperate Bacon

Desperate Housewives just got hotter. This week, Lynette (Felicity Huffman) took on a bet in order to bring an end to fraternity pranks around the office between her boss and husband - the bet entailed her eating one pound of their client's raw bacon. And she won the bet. Now that's an award winning performance.

A Pork Barrel for Pork Research

Iowa State University recently received a $10 million grant for research towards sequencing the swine genome. The purpose of the project is to "improve swine health and to increase the efficiency of swine production."

"The project will lead to the development of new DNA-based tools to identify and select genetically superior pigs that resist infectious diseases, yield larger litter sizes and produce leaner cuts of meat for consumers."

I'm not sure it's possible to make bacon any better, but if they can find a way then more power to them. I can't think of a better way to spend my tax dollars!

Thanks to fellow blogger Todd for the tip.

Breakfast Pizza

Per The Bacon Show's suggestion, we tried their recipe #266, Bacon and Eggs Breakfast Pizza, for breakfast this morning. Using freshly made pizza dough from my favorite grocery store in Phoenix, AJ's Fine Foods, along with eggs, Boar's Head bacon and colby jack cheese, we whipped up a couple of these puppies to eat during our Saturday morning routine of watching college basketball (go Hoyas). My favorite bacon-related breakfast food has long been the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, followed by the breakfast burrito as a close second, but the breakfast pizza was so good that it might have just taken over the #1 slot...
